Written by: Editor

the-first-multi-lingual-atm-service-in-japan.jpgNo matter if you reside in Japan or just travelling in the country, ATM machines are important in our daly lives. Here, the most commonly met ATMs are those of Japan Post Bank and Seven Bank, with around 26,000 and 21,000 machines spread in the entire country.

However, recently, the first multi-lingual ATM service in Japan was introduced. In this article, our company formation consultants in Japan provide more details on this subject.

Available for foreigners in Japan

Foreign travelers in Japan are able now to suitably withdraw cash in the local currency utilizing credit cards, debit cards and other types of cards which are issued abroad due to the first multi-lingual ATM service offered by Seven Bank.

At the present, Seven Bank has around 21,000 ATM machines which provide screens, bills and voice guidance in four languages: English, Chinese, Korean and Portuguese.

These ATM machines were updated in 2015. The number of available languages increased to twelve, with the addition of Chinese (traditional), Malay, Thai, Indonesian, French, German, Vietnamese and Japanese.

When a card issued abroad is inserted into one of these ATMs, the screen displays the language selection, so that the visitors can have a quick and easy transaction.

As about their locations, our company registration advisors in Japan can offer the details on where these ATMs can be found.

Different ATM fee examples in Japan

Here are a few examples of the fee structures of some banks in Japan. Our Japan company formation executives would like to mention that depositing has the same fees as withdrawing in this country.

Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ: transactions are free between 8:45 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. during the week, in weekends and in public holidays. However, outside of these hours, the fee is JPY 105;
Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation: free during the week between 8:45 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., JPY 105 outside of these hours and during the weekends and in public holidays. However, there are certain exceptions;
Other bank fees: our company formation executives in Japan can offer more information on what these other fees from other Japanese banks consist of.
